Leaf conductance and CO2 assimilation of Larix gmelinii growin

چکیده
carbon dioxide (CO2) assimilation, and transpiration in a Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr. ex Kuzen forest in eastern Siberia. At the CO2 concentration of ambient air, maximum values (mean of 10 highest measured values) for CO2 assimilation, transpiration and leaf conductance for water vapor were 10.1 μmol m s, 3.9 mmol m s and 365 mmol m s, respectively. The corresponding mean values, which were much lower than the maximum values, were 2.7 μmol m s, 1.0 mmol m s and 56 mmol m s. The mean values were similar to those of Vaccinium species in the herb layer. The large differences between maximum and actual performance were the result of structural and physiological variations within the tree crowns and between trees that reduced maximum assimilation and leaf conductance by about 40 and 60%, respectively. Thus, maximum assimilation and conductance values averaged over the canopy were 6.1 μmol m s and 146 mmol m s, respectively. Dry air caused stomatal closure, which reduced assimilation by an additional 26%. Low irradiances in the morning and evening had a minor effect (−6%). Daily canopy transpiration was estimated to be 1.45 mm day, which is higher than the value of 0.94 mm day measured by eddy covariance, but similar to the value of 1.45 mm day calculated from the energy balance and soil evaporation, and less than the value of 2.1 mm day measured by xylem flux. Daytime canopy carbon assimilation, expressed on a ground area basis, was 0.217 mol m day, which is higher than the value measured by eddy flux (0.162 mol m day including soil respiration). We discuss the regulation of leaf gas exchange in Larix under the extreme climatic conditions of eastern Siberia (temperature > 35 °C and vapor pressure deficit > 5.0 kPa).

Carbon dioxide exchange of larch (Larix gmelinii) cones during development.
Larch (Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr.) cone scales are green, but little is known of their photosynthetic role in cone development or about how they differ in gas exchange characteristics from needle leaves. In contrast to leaf photosynthesis (Pleaf), we found that stomatal regulation of cone photosynthetic rate (Pcone) was marginal because the photosynthetic carbon came from internal recycling o...

Larix gmelinii, Pinaceae, Flavonoids, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography From needles of Larix gmelinii sixteen flavonoids were isolated and identified. The main flavonoids had been analyzed before, eight minor ones were identified as quercetin-3-glucoside, isorhamnetin-3-glucoside and -3-arabinoside, a somewhat lipophilic kaempferol-3-glucoside derivative, apigenin-7-glucoside, laricitrin-...

We examined the effects of atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and soil moisture stress (SMS) on leafand stand-level CO2 exchange in model 3-year-old coppiced cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr.) plantations using the large-scale, controlled environments of the Biosphere 2 Laboratory. A short-term experiment was imposed on top of continuing, long-term CO2 treatments (43 and 120 Pa), at th...

To explore how climatic factors influence tree growth within the context of global climate changes, we used a dendroclimatological analysis to understand the response of Larix gmelinii to climatic variations along a broad latitudinal gradient from 47.27◦ to 52.66◦ N in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Northeastern China. The growth-limiting climate factors and a detailed association between rad...
متن کاملEnvironmental regulation of xylem sap flow and total conductance of Larix gmelinii trees in eastern Siberia.
Xylem sap flow and environmental variables were measured on seven consecutive midsummer days in a 130-year-old Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr. forest located 160 km south of Yakutsk in eastern Siberia, Russia (61 degrees N, 128 degrees E, 300 m asl). The site received 20 mm of rainfall during the 4 days before measurements, and soil samples indicated that the trees were well watered. The tree cano...
